Autism in women

Many women live with autism for years without a diagnosis. Masking and co-occurring conditions can make the picture complex. We offer a clear, structured assessment that highlights both your strengths and support needs.

How can autism show up in women?

Autism affects how the brain processes social contexts, sensory input, and sometimes which interests you have. In women it often shows as masking, perfectionism, or constant energy budgeting to get through the day.

In the assessment we map how you’ve functioned in relationships, school, and work across your life. We distinguish autism from ADHD, burnout, PTSD, or hormonal shifts to give an accurate conclusion.

“An accurate autism assessment looks beyond masking and gives direction based on your strengths and circumstances.”

During the assessment we look at:

  • Masking strategies, social anxiety, and how your energy changes after social time.
  • Sensory sensitivity, sleep, hormonal variation, and body signals.
  • Special interests, strengths, and how you organize daily life, relationships, and family.
  • Co-occurring conditions such as ADHD, anxiety, depression, or burnout.

We use tools like RAADS-14, AQ, and 3Di with clinical interviews and partner/family input when you think it would help.

Autism assessment for adults

A thorough process that brings clarity

Our adult autism assessment is structured and evidence-based. We determine whether you meet criteria on the spectrum and what support you need. The team follows national guidelines and makes sure you feel safe and understood throughout.

Many come to us after long-term struggles in social situations or daily life, sometimes after a loved one’s diagnosis or recognizing earlier challenges in hindsight. Whatever your situation, the goal is for you to better understand your strengths and difficulties and get the right help forward.

1

Screening call

We start with a 30-minute screening call where you share your concerns and why you’re seeking assessment. We review current difficulties and what you hope to gain, and we decide if a full neuropsychiatric assessment is warranted. If yes, we plan next steps right away — if not, we offer advice and referrals.

2

In-depth interviews and forms

A licensed psychologist gathers a detailed history from childhood to now, focusing on social interaction, communication, routines, and sensory sensitivity. When possible we interview someone who knew you in childhood. You complete standardized self-ratings that map autistic traits and related symptoms.

3

Psychological testing and medical review

You complete psychological tests of cognitive and social functions. In parallel a specialist physician or psychiatrist conducts a medical and psychiatric review to rule out other causes and identify co-occurring conditions such as ADHD, depression, or anxiety.

4

Multidisciplinary case review

Psychologist and psychiatrist review all information together and assess whether autism criteria are met and if other diagnoses are present. The aim is an accurate, evidence-based diagnosis and a full understanding of your profile.

5

Feedback and follow-up

We schedule a feedback session to go through results and conclusions verbally, and you receive a written report. You get tailored recommendations for daily life, work, psychoeducation, treatment, or referrals. Even if no diagnosis is given, you receive clear feedback and guidance on next steps.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can’t find the answer? Contact us and we’ll guide you.

I relate but “function too well” — can I still be diagnosed?

Yes. Many women function highly but pay a high cost in stress or exhaustion. The assessment focuses on your internal experience, not just what things look like externally.

How do you account for hormones and cycles?

We map how symptoms shift with the menstrual cycle, pregnancy, or menopause and include that in the assessment and recommendations.

Can I get support at work or in studies after the assessment?

Yes. The report includes clear recommendations and can be used to apply for accommodations or educational support. We help you get what you need.

What happens after I receive my report?

You can book follow-ups whenever you like. We help with letters, therapy, coaching, or coordination with other care — based on the support you need over time.
